Spices by Billu Barangaroo: Contemporary Indian Restaurant Design Blending Culture, Nature & Waterfront Dining

Located within the vibrant waterfront precinct of Barangaroo on Gadigal Country, Spices by Billu was designed as an immersive dining experience that reflects the richness, warmth, and cultural identity of the Billu brand while responding sensitively to the architectural language and premium standards of the Barangaroo development. The project carefully balances openness, flow, atmosphere, and intimacy, creating a seamless spatial journey between arrival, dining, connection, and experience.

The design focused heavily on movement and visual permeability, allowing the restaurant to feel welcoming, breathable, and socially connected within the busy urban context. Suspended planting systems supported by delicate cable structures soften the architectural edges and introduce layers of greenery that reconnect the interior to nature and human wellbeing. Carefully curated furniture selection, bespoke detailing, material textures, and layered lighting design work together to create warmth, depth, and ambience throughout the space.

The project was delivered in close coordination with Lendlease requirements, ensuring the final outcome aligned with both the operational needs of the restaurant and the sophisticated identity of Barangaroo’s public realm.
